Being a disciple of Jesus Christ is a lifelong journey. During our life, we never “arrive” at a complete and final understanding of who God is and what God is calling each one of us to do. As we move through the various seasons of life facing new challenges and joys, our faith will also need to continue to grow and change. Spiritual Formation for adults offers opportunities to deepen your relationship with Christ as you face these new chapters in life. The faith learned at a younger age can provide a good foundation, but the reality of life as an adult needs a different type of faith than that of a child or youth. You are invited to find and participate in at least one Spiritual Formation opportunity with other adults as we grow together more and more into the likeness of Jesus Christ.

Each Sunday morning throughout the school year, adults have several options for spiritual formation during Church School from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. There are classes that use a curriculum that follows the Revised Common Lectionary, which guides the selection of the Scripture lesson each Sunday in worship. Because most of our Church School classes for children, youth and adults focus on the same scripture lesson used in worship, conversations about each week’s lesson and sermon can continue throughout the week across age and familial lines. Another option for adults is a seminar class that features guest speakers related to specific themes and topics.

Several different Bible study groups meet each week, offering an opportunity for adults to gather around God’s Word as they seek to grow together in their understanding, faith and discipleship. We currently offer these weekly Bible study groups:

  • Men’s Discipleship Group, Wednesdays, 6:45 a.m. to 8:00 a.m., Room 115
  • Women’s Bible Study, Fridays, 9:20 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., Room 115
  • Co-Ed Bible Study, Tuesdays, 7:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., Room 115

In addition to the Bible study groups, we also offer several other opportunities for adults to gather to discuss matters of faith and discipleship as they seek to grow in their own discipleship.

  • Word before Work (for women), Thursdays, 6:45 a.m. to 7:45 a.m., Room 115
  • The Book Lover’s Group (men & women), 4th Tuesday of the month, 7:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., Room 220
  • Saturday Men’s Group, every other Saturday, 7:30 a.m. to 9:00 a.m., Witherspoon Room
