4th & 5th Grade
There is a significant developmental shift as children move into their tween years. At FPCA, we identify 4th and 5th graders as tweens, and intentionally provide spiritual formation opportunities designed to connect with this age group, including occasions for social development. Through worship, study, fellowship, and service, tweens grow into themselves and the community of faith.
Tween Church School classes for 4th and 5th grades meet every Sunday morning (except for the Sunday between Christmas and New Year’s Day and Easter Sunday) throughout the school year from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. Church School classes are designed to foster a fun approach to learning the stories in the Bible and the foundations of our Christian faith tradition while building relationships.
JUNIOR HANDBELL CHOIR
The Junior Handbell Choir is an introductory choir for handbells and chimes for 4th and 5th graders. They ring in both traditional and alternative worship a total of 8 times per church year. Permission may be granted for 1st – 3rd graders ONLY if they already posses the skills to read music and is approved by the coordinator. The Junior Handbell Choir rehearses weekly on Thursdays from 4:30-5:30 p.m.
Tween First Friday, a fellowship opportunity for 4th and 5th graders, takes place in the evening on the first Friday of each month. Some months, the activity takes place off campus for events such as bowling, roller-skating, and hayrides. Other months, we are at the church for activities such as game night and movie night.
WELCOMING CHILDREN TO THE LORD’S TABLE
The Welcoming Children to the Lord’s Table class is for all 1st through 5th graders and their parents to help prepare children for their participation in the Sacrament of the Lord’s Supper (Holy Communion). We offer this class annually, and parents decide when the time is right for their child to participate. The class includes a variety of hands-on activities that will enable parents and children to learn and talk together about the meaning and significance of the Lord’s Supper for their lives.
