Adult Faith Formation at First Presbyterian Church of Allentown helps us meet the needs of our people at whatever moment they find themselves in their journey of faith, at any age or stage or identity. Adult groups meet both on Sundays and during the week with pastors and member led discussions of the Bible and Christian living today.
The purpose of Adult Faith Formation at First Presbyterian Church of Allentown is to offer support and encouragement, and provide means for individuals in their personal faith journeys and in daily living within their communities. Recognizing that faith journeys vary among individuals, we will meet people where they are in order to facilitate personal and community growth and development.
Classes encompassing various topics – Biblical themes, Social Issues, Mis-sion, Current Events, etc. – are offered throughout the year, usually as a multi-week series. Presentations and conversations are designed to inform individuals in their faith development and personal discipleship. These classes are offered online and in-person.
Small group opportunities are available for a variety of purposes: Bible study, fellowship, book study, support, exploring the dynamics of Faith, etc. These offerings are an opportunity for adults to gather around God’s Word as they seek to grow together in their understanding, faith and discipleship.
Several times throughout the course of a year, New Member Inquiry Classes are offered for those considering membership with First Presbyterian Church of Allentown. The classes are an opportunity for individuals to explore Presbyterian theology and history as well as congregational life within First Presbyterian Church.
We believe God equips all people with spiritual gifts and talents and calls us to use those gifts to further the work of God’s Kingdom on earth. Every time a child is baptized, our congregation promises to help parents raise and nurture their child in the ways of God. One way we can live out this baptismal vow is to serve as a faith formation leader. Many opportunities exist for members and friends of our congregation to serve as a leader of children, tweens, youth and adults. Is God calling you to use your gifts as a faith formation leader?
All leaders who minister with children or youth in the life of our church must complete our Safe Sanctuaries training to help us do everything possible to keep them safe. For detailed information about our Safe Sanctuaries program, see the Resource Center.
